What pollutants need to be prevented from entering the gear pump?

May 01, 2022

Pollutants entering the gear pump will affect the working efficiency of the pump, and even cause gear pump failure or even scrapping. Preventing impurities from entering the gear pump is an important point of daily operation and maintenance.

① Prevent and reduce external pollution. The hydraulic transmission system must be cleaned strictly before and after assembly. In the process of filling and discharging hydraulic oil and disassembling the hydraulic system, keep the containers, funnels, pipe fittings, interfaces, etc. clean to prevent pollutants from entering.

② Filtering. Filter the impurities produced by the system. The finer the filtration, the better the cleanliness grade of the oil and the longer the service life of the components. Filters with appropriate accuracy shall be installed at the corresponding parts of the system, and the filter element shall be regularly inspected, cleaned or replaced.

③ Control the operating temperature of the hydraulic fluid. High operating temperature of hydraulic fluid will accelerate its oxidation and deterioration, produce various products and shorten its service life. Therefore, the maximum service temperature of hydraulic fluid shall be limited. The ideal temperature of gear pump hydraulic system is required to be 15 ~ 55 ℃, generally not more than 60 ℃.

④ Check and replace the hydraulic fluid regularly. The hydraulic oil shall be regularly inspected and replaced according to the requirements of the hydraulic equipment operation manual and the relevant provisions of the maintenance procedures. When replacing the hydraulic oil, clean the oil tank and flush the system pipes and hydraulic components.

⑤ Waterproof and drainage. The oil tank, oil circuit, cooler pipeline and oil storage container shall be well sealed without leakage. Drain valve shall be set at the bottom of oil tank. The hydraulic oil polluted by water is milky white, so measures shall be taken to separate water.

⑥ Prevent air from entering. Reasonably use the exhaust valve to ensure that the hydraulic system, especially the oil suction pipeline of the hydraulic pump, is completely sealed. The oil return of the system shall be as far away from the oil suction port of the hydraulic pump as possible to provide sufficient time for the air in the oil return to escape. The oil return pipe orifice shall be inclined and extend below the liquid level of the oil tank to reduce the impact of liquid flow.
